Former teen gang girl Tarnz talks with brutal honesty about her life in this documentary. After forming her own girl gang in the Napier suburb of Maraenui, she amassed 13 theft convictions and was imprisoned three times. In these excerpts, Tarnz talks about how her crimes escalated after losing her mother and brother in an accident. Narrated by actor Stephanie Tauevihi, the documentary was a finalist at the 2007 Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival. Tarnz' Story and another doco, Mob Daughters, followed on from 2003 award-winner Gang Girls. All three documentaries were made by Front of the Box Productions.
We achieved a lot. Most of us are still here. I moved out of Maraenui though — I moved away just to sort of get somewhere in life.– Tarnz on leaving her old gang life behind
