Across eight episodes of this show, a team of experts visit provincial museums across Aotearoa and help them revamp. This first season is presented by archeologist and museums specialist Brigid Gallagher, who takes us to Cromwell and Christchurch in the South Island, and Mokau, Tauwhare, Thames and Kawhia in the North— plus a bach on Rangitoto Island. The museums range from the more generalised (Mokau's eclectic range of exhibits) to the very specific (Tauwhare's personal collection of military artefacts). No matter the exhibit, each episode explores the distinct history, community and iwi of each town. Gallagher was part of long-running British archaeological show Time Team.
We face an interesting challenge here. The batch has been set up as a snapshot in time, and if we plan to do any changes, do we follow that same principle, or do we go for something quite different?– Presenter Brigid Gallagher describes the Rangitoto bach, early in episode four
