Hongi to Hāngī: And Everything in Between is a friendly introductory guide to cultural traditions central to te ao Māori. In the first two episodes, presenter Tāmati Rimene-Sproat walks viewers through a first-time visit to a marae. Other episodes explore the special place waiata occupy in Māoridom, and the significance of Matariki (Māori New Year). Rimene-Sproat also explains New Zealand's national day, viewing the original Te Tiriti O Waitangi documents and visiting Te Tii marae — a place of politics, protest and celebration. Rimene-Sproat won Best Entertainment Presenter at the 2022 NZ TV Awards for the series.
