Journalist Pam Corkery takes the expression 'you only live once' to heart during her intrepid journey to Colombia. Bruised after being shot in Bogatá as part of a bulletproof jacket test, Corkery readies herself for a journey into rural Colombia, where the kidnapping rates are high and the journalist-napping rates even higher. Despite being agoraphobic, she wards off piranha in the Amazon and deadly chicken-eating spiders in Zona Cafetera, hikes an almost vertical mountain and sheds a tear at a bullfighting ring. Corkery sums up her visit with a smile, saying "if you want to really think about life again, come here."
Here I am, in this incredibly civilised square that's picture postcard. It could be any square in Europe...and then I look around and there's a wall of infamy: detainees, the people who have been kidnapped — some of them for up to six years — and it reminds me: I'm going to those places.– Presenter Pam Corkery looks up at a Bogatá billboard showing victims of crime
