Jordyn Morgan — aka Jordyn with a Why — draws inspiration from her Māori and Samoan heritage in creating her bilingual, 1980s tinged music. As she says, "my 'why' is about creativity and storytelling and justice, humour, depth and meaning". South Auckland-born Morgan developed her musical talents singing with her whānau at church. She released debut single 'Te Ao Mārama' in March 2021; R'n'B soul song 'Brown Melodies' followed in 2022. For series Waitata Anthems, she recorded bilingual duet 'Hey Love' alongside soul singer Mohi Allen. The Raglan-based singer won Best Female Artist at the 2023 Māori Music Awards.
