Kaleidoscope - Geoff Murphy and Andrew Brown

Television (Full Length) – 1981

This 1981 Kaleidoscope show introduces two films and two filmmakers: director Geoff Murphy promotes Goodbye Pork Pie, and (starting six minutes in) writer/producer Andrew Brown is on set for the making of dark drama Bad Blood. Brown discusses his work in British television, while Four Weddings and a Funeral director Mike Newell prepares the Bad Blood cast for a big scene. Meanwhile Murphy joins a cavalcade of minis, attacks the stifling yet stimulating forces of television, and ends on a memorable note of anarchy. Note: this surviving copy contains some glitches and short sections of blank screen.

I think that television can take most of the credit for the establishment of the New Zealand film industry, because their negative attitude towards filmmakers in the private sector has forced us into the cinemas, and it's forced this amazing development.
