Sir Hector Busby's lifework was restoring the ancient knowledge of waka hourua (double-hulled waka) and training a new generation of Māori in waka carving and navigation. Directed by Sir Hector's nephew Allan George, this short documentary is the result of a promise made by George to Busby's brother Monty just before Monty's death. This is Busby's last interview before he passed away in May 2019. He discusses studying celestial navigation under Micronesian master navigator Pius Piailug, and sailing his first waka hourua to Rarotonga. The Loading Doc was invited to multiple indigenous film festivals.
