In 2011 a light-hearted video made by Levi Hawken and his mates was posted online. Once it took off, Hawken found his life changed forever when he became known as the 'Nek minnit” guy. This short documentary, made as part of the 2019 batch of Loading Docs, explores Hawken’s passion for skateboarding and sculpture. He also reflects on the negative aspects of becoming a meme, with people finding him “funny-looking” due to a condition called ectodermal dysplasia. The film’s heavy soundtrack is supplied by Wellington heavy metal band Beastwars.
I don't know if everything happens for a reason, but everything happens and you've just got to deal with it in the best way that you can...– Levi Hawken
