This story from te reo Māori current affairs series Marae is set in Rūātoki and covers the launch of a Ngāi Tūhoe educational resource, along with an album by Tūhoe composer, singer and academic Hirini Melbourne. Reporter Reuben Collier talks to proud locals at Te Rewarewa Marae and to Richard Nunns, a traditional Māori instrumentalist who played with Melbourne and, alongside him, led the ngā taonga pūoro (traditional instrument) revival. The launch was held not long after Melbourne's death so his community reflects on his many achievements. Renowned Tūhoe journalist Tini Molyneux is among the guests.
His songs will live forever; continuing the legacy of renowned Māori composers such as Tuini Ngāwai and Ngoi Pēwhairangi.– Academic Te Kahautu Maxwell on the legacy of composer Hirini Melbourne
