In 2013 a colleague of journalist David Farrier entered the office in tears after a nasty run in with a car towing company working for Ponsonby store Bashford Antiques. In 2016 a TV3 exposé about the shop's aggressive actions spurred Farrier to dig deeper. All roads led to Michael Organ, a man with criminal convictions, a penchant for fake identities and a line in psychological torment. In this trailer Farrier sinks deeper into Organ's disturbing back story and plays 'cat and mouse' with the man himself. Mister Organ is Farrier's second feature documentary, following 2016's acclaimed Tickled and Netflix series Dark Tourist.
I decided to call Bashford Antiques. I wanted to ask Michael Organ why he or Jillian [Bashford-Evers] don’t have a secondhand dealers licence. I wanted to ask how he arrived at the clamping fee of $760. I wanted to ask if the police choppers were still circling overhead.– David Farrier, in part three of his report on Bashford Antiques, The Spinoff, 10 October 2017
