Mitre 10 Changing Rooms

Television, 1998–2003

Based on the popular Changing Rooms format from the United Kingdom, participants of this reality TV show swap homes to renovate one room for each other — with full creative control. Contestants only have two days and $2,000 so it's often a tense race to the finish line. This New Zealand adaption ran for six seasons and was executive produced by "reality queen" Dame Julie Christie. Presenter Kerry Smith (Gloss actor) was joined by "Handy Andy" (Andy Dye) and two interior designers each episode including Neil McLachlan, Donald Grant Sunderland and Sally Ridge — who often pushed the renovations in a bold direction.
