On the road for more than two decades and 200 episodes, Motorway Patrol has sped ahead to become New Zealand's longest-running reality programme. The half-hour show follows police officers who work on Auckland's motorways. They deal with drunk drivers, crashes and scrub fires — plus errant walkers, cyclists and animals. Roughly a million plus vehicles hit Auckland's motorways each day. Production company Greenstone TV also makes Kiwi and Australian versions of companion show Highway Cops. Leigh Hart, now a comedian and radio presenter, helped develop Motorway Patrol for Greenstone TV when he was a research writer.
