Made as part of his master's thesis at Auckland University, director and writer Todd Karehana delves into his own personal heartbreak for short film My Brother Mitchell. Based on the tragedy of his brother's death when they were just boys, the short film tells the story of a heartbreaking tangi and the desperation to bring a loved one back to life. My Brother Mitchell was Karehana's fourth film, and screened at the NZ International Film Festival as part of Ngā Whanaunga Māori Pasifika Shorts in 2018. The short also screened at Canada's indigenous film festival imagineNATIVE the same year.
