In this episode of Indian migrant series Namaste New Zealand, presenter Kadambari Raghukumar talks to Auckland business owner Kharag Singh about retail crime and how it is hurting shopkeepers, many of whom are Indians. Singh, himself a victim of ram raids, is frustrated that shop owners are left with major clean ups and the burden of beefing up security. Raghukumar also interviews artist Nagender Reddy, who found work at Weta Digital before venturing out on his own, and the owners of Indian sauce company Mel's, Mel Hurst and Avi Kewalramani.
It is my belief that in any country the cause of crime is hunger. Secondly, it is because of drugs because people don't realise what they are doing to other people.– Retailer Kharag Singh on what he thinks is driving retail crime in Auckland
