This episode of song and dance show New Boots and Pants is a feast of new wave hits. The young cast high-kick around a 'pick n mix' inspired set, covering songs by Bananarama, The Go-Go's and Adam Ant. The guest vocalists are ex-Golden Harvest singer Karl Gordon and Alastair Riddell (glam rockers Space Waltz), who gets in his new romantic groove, while his band Modern Contours work their synthesisers. Cheekbones, fringes and scarves are on display. A medley of back to back hits from Blondie and The Police showcase the joyful energy of the performers, including James Cross (from documentary James & Issey).
Last year most of the country's promising young bands split up, leaving us with the old school. Of this school, [Alastair] Riddell is one of the few to retain his credibility in 1983.– Rip It Up magazine, issue 68, March 1983
