In this multi award-winning short film, Salote, a cleaner, struggles through a shift at Auckland Airport while hiding the painful reality of her life from those around her. Anapela Polataivao (from comic duo Pani and Pani, and TV series The Market) plays Salote. Night Shift was the fourth short from writer/director Zia Mandviwalla (Eating Sausage, Clean Linen, Amadi). The film enjoyed a successful festival run at home and abroad, picking up a number of awards, including Best Film, Actor and Screenplay at Kiwi fest Show Me Shorts; it was nominated for Best Short at the Cannes Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival.
..New Zealand's only film in competition this year. it is a true gem, subtle and devastating, and unofficially short-listed by the jury in their deliberations.– Sunday Star-Times reviewer Sarah Watt reporting from the Cannes Film Festival, 1 July 2012, page F15
