Set in a post-apocalyptic New Zealand, this action drama was shot entirely in the Marlborough region. Kellan (Josh McKenzie, from Girl vs Boy and Filthy Rich) is forced to go bush in search of medicine to save his injured wife (Step Dave's Delaney Tabron). He encounters a gruff farmer (veteran Marshall Napier, from Came a Hot Friday and Bellbird) who promises to help, in exchange for defending his livestock from desperate marauders. Director Aaron Falvey (The Flame) and writer Justin Eade spent years refining their indie feature.
It really was a community film project. We had many people who volunteered their skills for free because they believed in the project, and that’s really quite humbling. I don’t think the film could have been made without the support from the community.– Aaron Falvey on directing his debut feature, The Marlborough Express, 16 May 2022
