OMC had a huge year in 1996; in January debut single 'How Bizarre' topped the Kiwi charts and started its global takeover, eventually making the Top Ten in 15 countries. 'On The Run' was the third single off the debut OMC album. Over distinctive surf guitar licks, Pauly Fuemana relays a desperate tale of a man on the run from the law, facing judgement from on high. The video showcases Fuemana's Elvis Presley style and moves. The musician models a range of retro fashions on a revolving stage but his star status is really confirmed when he dons a rhinestone dinner jacket.
I interviewed him in London in 1997. His years in gangs were reflected in the tattoos that covered his limbs, yet he struck me as a thoughtful man, bemused by his success. When Fuemana resettled in New Zealand in late 1997 he found that what was once a joke — an Otara millionaire — now represented his reality.– Garth Cartwright in an obituary for singer Pauly Fuemana, The Guardian, 4 April 2010
