Kicking off with Elvis Presley's 'That's Alright,' Prince Tui Teka delivers a classic performance in this variety show. The Yandall Sisters provide backup vocals on the smoky, Vegas-inspired set. Tui sings his hit 'E Ipo' with wife Missy, and they pay tribute to the song’s Māori lyricist Ngoi Pēwhairangi ('Poi E'). The songs are peppered with warmth, humour and poi action (led by a young Pita Sharples), as Tui Teka confirms his reputation as one of Aotearoa's great entertainers. The classy Bernie Allen-led band includes guitarist Tama Renata. The special was recorded at TVNZ's studios in Auckland's Manchester Unity building.
He unlocked his natural talents (which were plenty) and, just as important, he did the yards. He worked the stage; he treaded the boards. He amassed the repertoire. He built a persona around his actual personality — if it was ever an act it was impossible to tell. He made himself the act.– Writer Simon Sweetman, Stuff, 8 July 2011
