Seventeen-year-old Jim (Jordan Oosterhof) is a promising boxer, training under the exacting eye of his alcoholic father Stan (renowned English actor Tim Roth). Life outside the ring gets complicated when Jim forms a friendship with an outcast takatāpui Māori schoolmate, Whetu (Conan Hayes). Their relationship deepens into romance, attracting hatred within their small, testosterone-filled West Auckland town, and suddenly Jim's mapped out future is in doubt. This is writer, director and AUT Design Professor Welby Ing's first feature, after his acclaimed short films Boy, Munted, and Sparrow.
This whole town reeks of testosterone.– Whetu (Conan Hayes) on his rural West Auckland town
