In this six-part series, hopeful contestants prepare for the prestigious biannual kapa haka competition and festival, Te Matatini. Presenter Wairangi Koopu — a former New Zealand Warriors rugby league player and Te Matatini performer— takes a journey around Aotearoa meeting different groups as they prepare, learning what it takes to perform at the nation's biggest kapa haka festival. The show was made by Pango Productions for TVNZ+. Each episode focuses on a different type of performance: waiata tira, waiata-ā-ringa, whakaeke (the entrance song), poi, mōteatea (the chant) and haka.
