Shocked by low voter turnout in local politics, veteran actor and director Ginette McDonald put herself forward for the 2013 Wellington City Council elections, standing in the Southern Ward. In this story from current affairs show Seven Sharp, reporter Jehan Casinader tags along with McDonald on a weekend campaign walkabout. McDonald hits the Newtown shops and farmers' market, greeting familiar faces, handing out flyers and putting her quick wit to work hustling for votes. McDonald came in third out of seven candidates in what was a tight race. Winner Paul Eagle went on to become Deputy Mayor.
What do you mean 'how do I feel about politics?' What sort of question's that?– Ginette McDonald suffers no fools on the campaign trail
