Jan Preston's musical career includes composing for film and television (Home by Christmas) performing with theatre troupe Red Mole, winning Single of the Year in 1981 with Coup D'Etat and establishing herself in Australasia as an exponent of "boogie-woogie and rhythm and blues piano". This song comes from 1992 solo album We Need One Another and is a country style plea for global peace and understanding. The stylish video from Paul Middleditch features two dancers in stark makeup enacting scenes of conflict and resolution. Preston addresses the camera directly, and embraces a baby to bring home her message.
My room of pianos … that’s been my life. I have, much to my husband’s frustration, about five. He’s taken the bannister off and on so many times to get upright pianos in and out that he’s now screwed rather than nailed it. Every piano, whether Steinway, Yamaha or Bergendorfer, is slightly different.– Pianist and songwriter Jan Preston on her deep love for pianos, Audioculture, 24 November 2015
