Podcast and web series Taringa dives into everything te ao Māori. Hosted by tikanga and te reo Māori experts Paraone Gloyne and Te Puaheiri Snowden, this episode tackles grammar to level up your kōrero. Gloyne shares an easy mnemonic to remember the difference between the two forms of possessives in te reo Māori — the 'A'-category for things you control, and the 'O'-category for things that control you. Snowden tries to catch him out with tricky examples. Te Wānanga o Aotearoa has produced the bilingual series since 2017. Regular topics include grammar, historical events, and histories of different iwi.
So a pukapuka is a object, right? If I was to say, 'Te pukapuka a Paraone' or 'Te pukapuka a Puaheiri', it would mean the book that belongs to Puaheiri. If I said, 'Te pukapuka o Puaheiri', that would mean the book that's about Puaheriri.– Presenter Paraone Gloyne
