Te Kuru Dewes

[Ngāti Rangitihi, Ngāti Porou]

Raised with te reo Māori, Te Kuru Dewes earned his Masters in the language from Waikato University. A passionate advocate for te reo, he has built a career as a journalist, translator, and voice actor. In 2023, he ventured into songwriting, crafting te reo lyrics for artists Troy Kingi, Lois Baker, and translating songs for Jordyn with a Why, Diaz Cameron, and Aro. That same year Dewes made his performance debut with hip-hop styled te reo single ‘Don’t Rush’, produced for Waiata Anthems. Collaborative single 'Toitū Te Tiriti' with Ria Hall and Troy Kingi followed, addressing the government's proposal to revise Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
