Tears

The Crocodiles , Music Video – 1980

from the album Tears (1980)

Band Spats demonstrated they could write a catchy song with 'New Wave Goodbye'. But it needed a name change to The Crocodiles, the addition of singer Jenny Morris, and a track called 'Tears' for the public to really sit up and take notice. In the video, drummer Bruno Lawrence hangs around next to a shady lamp post while Morris passes by. The band's bubblegum-coloured costumes positively shine against an all white set. Written by Fane Flaws and Arthur Baysting, 'Tears' got to number 17 on the New Zealand singles charts.

I've got to the point that I’ve realised what I really want to do is have a pop band. I’ve been in blues bands and jazz bands and avant-garde bands but I’ve never been in a band that plays pop and I think that’s the hardest thing to do.
– Fane Flaws in an interview with Gary Steel, It magazine, July 1980
