Wellington's The Hasselhoff Experiment created "hoff hype" in 1997, when after being together for six months, they released just 200 copies of their self-titled debut album on vinyl. It earned the rockers the award for Best New Act at the 1998 bNet Music Awards, which led to them being signed by Flying Nun. The Hasselhoff Experiment released another two albums then later called it a day — Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned and Out of the Sandpit and Onto the Drive.
