The Hulamen

Short-lived Wellington R&B band The Hulamen were famous for funky gigs full of visual stimulation — especially the Eelman, a "sleazy" character designed by mask maker Debra Bustin. The eight-person band included ex members of Rough Justice and The Rodents, saxophonist Peter Famularo, vocalist Marion Spencer and guest vocals from Holidaymaker Peter Marshall. The Hulamen were signed to Eelman Records, an artist-led collective launched by keyboardist John Niland (Tombolas and The Pelicans were also signed to Eelman). The Hulamen released their EP Beer and Skittles in 1982, but broke up soon after.
