The Krypton Factor ran on New Zealand television for four years. The quiz show with the memorable Art of Noise theme tune was based on an English format; it first screened downunder in 1987 as a Trans-Tasman competition, becoming a New Zealand-only event in 1988. The show was known as "television’s toughest quiz", and had much-loved newsreader Dougal Stevenson at the helm. Contestants “pushed themselves to the limits” in five tests — mental agility, observation, intelligence, physical ability, and general knowledge — as they vied for the title of 'Superperson' and the Krypton Factor trophy. Just the glory — nothing else!
