Teenager Michael (Auckward Love's Jordan Selwyn) has a bedroom plastered in maps, and dreams of one day meeting his mysterious father. His world view is challenged when he meets Mary (Filthy Rich's Bonnie Soper, in an award-winning performance) who has been blind since birth. Ohio-born writer/director Harold Brodie sets his second feature in and around the Rodney district, near Auckland. In these excerpts Michael and his mates spy on Mary; little does Michael know that Mum (Rebecca Gibney) has invited Mary and her mum over for dinner. Mary prompts the awkward Michael to open up about his life.
I also had a love for maps. Since I was very young they always fascinated me. Reading maps was a daydream of some place far away and magical.– Writer/director Harold Brodie in an Onfilm interview, February 2009, page 18
