The Way We Were

Television, 1996–1998

Presented by Paul Holmes,The Way We Were looked at New Zealand in times past, with a particular focus on the 1950s, 60s and 70s. With an emphasis on archival footage, the 22-minute episodes brought the nation's history to life with photographs and film. Sometimes nostalgic, sometimes critical, the series covered such subjects as New Zealand's history of immigration, the national obsession with the great outdoors, television arriving on Kiwi shores and the countrys relationship to the English monarchy. The series ran for two seasons from 1996; an accompanying photography book was published, with a foreword by Holmes.
