Tākaro Tribe

The five patapaiarehe fairies of Tākaro Tribe (named A, E, I, O and U) live in the enchanted Wao Arapū (Alphabet Forest) with their Pāpā Rākau (tree father) and Kōkā (pond mother) — where their everyday activities help them to learn te reo Māori. The animated show for pre-schoolers incorporates storytelling with waiata (songs) and kanikani (dance) to help it's young audience practise their reo. Producer Nicole Hoey spearheaded the show, which has enjoyed multiple seasons on Whakaata Māori and TVNZ. Like animated show Pipi Mā, Tākaro Tribe is accompanied by a line of te reo Māori speaking dolls for children.
