Tom Scott and John Clarke were good mates over many decades. Both grew up in the Manawatū. They met as university students — Clarke was at Victoria, and Scott at Massey. Colleagues told Tom he needed to meet John because they would get on. And they did — famously! They even wrote a capping magazine together. Scott later wrote the part of Wal Footrot, voiced by Clarke in hit film Footrot Flats: The Dog’s (Tail) Tale. The two stayed in contact over the years, despite being separated by the Tasman. When John Clarke passed away on 9 April 2017, Tom Scott created this moving tribute to his friend.
