In TV series Topp Country, Lynda and Jools Topp celebrate home cooks and food producers on a culinary tour of New Zealand. In this excerpt, the twins visit their parents' home in Morrinsville and help their mum Jean bake the family's special gingernut recipe. Jean recalls the recipe's origins, gifted by Nana Topp after Jean's mother's early passing, and the twins reflect on a childhood spent in the country. While the biscuits bake Jools helps their dad, Peter, clean his beloved car. He shares how he first met the twins' mother, and fondly recollects his own mother.
...right from the day that Jools and I were born, you know, it was a beautiful life. We grew up on a farm and had a beautiful freedom — a charmed life in some ways, when I look back at it. Mum and dad were always there for us; dad has given us this beautiful understanding of horses and animals, and our mum is just the best cook in the world.– Lynda Topp, at the start of this excerpt
