Troy Kingi

Troy Kingi is attempting a musical project with few precedents — 10 albums, in 10 different genres, in 10 years. Earlier albums covered funk, folk and psychedelic soul; the sixth (inspired by music from his birth year of 1984) arrived in late 2022. Since breaking into the Aotearoa music scene in 2013, the Rotorua/Te Kaha raised artist has been awarded the prestigious Silver Scroll songwriting award and the Taite Music Prize, plus two Waiata Māori Music Awards and a Tui for Best Folk Artist Album. Also an actor, Kingi has featured in telemovies The Kick and Toke, and was one of the composers for Polynesian Panthers drama The Panthers.
