Intrepid Journeys - Namibia (Jenny Shipley)

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2008

New Zealand's first female prime minister Jenny Shipley throws herself into the red Namibian dunes in this episode of Intrepid Journeys. Amongst vast and arid landscapes, Shipley climbs the famous Dune 45, talks with the Himba tribe about issues they're facing, and dances in the streets with locals who barely need any persuasion to join her.  Shipley learns to "go with the flow" when her campervan gets stuck in sand and the heat wreaks havoc with her hair and makeup routine. A herd of elephants in Etosha National Park is the icing on the cake for Shipley's captivating (though dust-ridden) trip to Namibia.

I retired from politics in 2002 for the quiet life. So I asked myself, what on earth am I doing allowing cameras back into my world?
– Jenny Shipley is apprehensive about the film crew at the start of this episode
