This government short film follows Kiwi WWll veterans as they return to civilian jobs back in New Zealand. Soldiers' loyal service overseas is rewarded with new jobs, trade training and low-interest loans to set up businesses. One soldier, who lost his sight in Crete, now winds armatures, while disabled serviceman Thomas Collins creates pāua jewellery from his home. Soldier Laurie Gubb received a loan to set up a shoe shop — Gubb's Shoes still operates in Wellington today. The newsreel also features Kiwi forces supervising the return of Japanese soldiers to Japan.
It’s not much of a homecoming for them.– Narrator, on Japanese soldiers returning home to a destroyed Japan after WWII
