Hi Heather my grandfather was Trooper Allan S Wild who was in the Auckland Mounted Rifles with your grandfather. My father enjoyed reading your grandfathers war diaries to find out what his dad went through.

this made me cry. every kiwi should be able to remember this battle out of all battles in WW1. They fought for us now for our freedom.

Amazing to see this footage of such a tragic battle. My grandfather Edwin William Shepherd (known as Jack) was born on 21 December 1894 and died on the 13 October 1926. He was Tpr 13/453 of the 4th (Waikato ) Mounted Rifles and he fought at Passchendaele. He was also at Gallipoli and his diaries are online at http://www.nzmr.org/shepherd.htm and http://www.nzmr.org/shepherd2.htm

His only child Margaret Catherine Shepherd is 91 yrs old and lives in Takapuna Auckland NZ. Edwin (Jack) Shepherd has 24 descendants - so far
