Landing in Borneo, rugby player Norm Hewitt (Ngāti Kahungunu) manages to catch sight of orangutan and the proboscis monkey. But his real interest is Borneo's people, especially the Kelabit and Iban — tribes known for their history of headhunting. Today, the tribes are peaceful and self-sufficient, welcoming Hewitt into their homes and sharing their ways of life. These great experiences don't come easily — Hewitt wades through dense bush and fights off leeches in 100 percent humidity to reach these remote tribes. He also gets a harrowing insight into man's mark on nature: palm oil plantations, mining and forest fires.
After bouncing around half of Asia for an entire day to get here, I'm starving. But there's no bacon, no eggs and no Weet-Bix.– Norm Hewitt walks through the rain in Kuching looking for a breakfast, early in this episode
