Intrepid Journeys - Borneo (Norm Hewitt)

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2008

After bouncing around half of Asia for an entire day to get here, I'm starving. But there's no bacon, no eggs and no Weet-Bix.
– Norm Hewitt walks through the rain in Kuching looking for a breakfast, early in this episode
Kuching's a very cool place. I'm so looking forward to getting into the jungle though: the rainforest. My real purpose in being on this trip is about engaging with the local tribal people. I think there are so many synergies with the Māori culture.
– Norm Hewitt peruses Kuching's markets, early in this episode
It's the only way to get into the park: bus, boat, foot.
– Norm Hewitt enters Bako National Park
The jungle's singing for me.
– Norm Hewitt enjoys an after dark dinner in Bako National Park
...I feel like such an old man. Rugby's coming back to haunt me — particularly my knees. But that's no excuse. Five more minutes. Harden up, I say!
– Norm Hewitt completes an intense jungle hike to a Kelabit village
It's quite amazing to see it from up here with regards to the amount of total area being consumed by palm oil.
– While flying to the village of Bario, Norm Hewitt gets a bird's-eye view of palm oil plantations
It's hard not to feel a bit freaked out by what's happening here ecologically, with the jungle being bulldozed for palm oil. But I'm optimistic the culture will survive as time catches up to it — or at least, adapt enough to allow them to continue living the way they're used to.
– Norm Hewitt reminisces, at the end of his trip
