Singers Muroki and Riiki Reid collaborated for this soulful and uplifting waiata about supporting those who are struggling. 'Kārewa', meaning floating or buoyant in te reo Māori, captures the song’s message of helping others rise above difficult times. The duo deliver heartfelt vocals for this gentle acoustic track, supported by a choir of voices radiating a sense of hope and healing. 'Kārewa' is their first original song in te reo. It was produced as a part of the Waiata Anthems series, with the support of language consultant Pānia Papa and seasoned musicians Dallas Tamaira (Fat Freddy's Drop) and Devin Abrams.
I don't have the words to show how much I admire Muroki and Riiki and the amazing, beautiful way they sing and the way they pronounce the words.– Backup singer Raniera Blake on working with Muroki and Riiki Reid, in episode 14 of Waiata Anthems' 2013 season
