Hero image for Kei Pōhēhē

In this soulful waiata, reggae singer Chad Chambers expresses his love for Tokomaru Bay his tūrangawaewae (place to stand). 'Kei Pōhēhē' (meaning "don't mistake me") is a song about not judging a book by its cover, something close to Chambers' heart as a self-confessed "rough around the edges" artist. Made for the Waiata Anthems series, the track was written specifically about Chambers by his cousin Te Ataakura Pewhairangi. In this video, Chambers (Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau a Te Aotāwarirangi me Ruataupare) shows off his laid-back personality, performing in gumboots and rugby shorts.

There's a small saying we use in relation to the mountain Marotiri — e kore te maunga e nekeneke. We always say our mountain is Marotiri and it never moves. It always stands staunch and that's how we like to sort of look at ourselves as that too.
