A Familiar Feeling

Short Film (Full Length) – 2019

Woman meets man in a bar. Sparks fly and memories are made  but not as anticipated. Five-strong team Snack to the Future were assigned 'cringe comedy' as their genre for the 2019 48Hours film contest, and chose a simple idea with a neat pay off. The result scored five awards at the Christchurch finals, before bringing the Grand National title down to Canterbury for the first time. Playing the star-crossed couple are Hamish Parkinson (The Eggplant) and Phoebe Hurst. Judges praised the slick production values, and the film won Best Script. Director Julian Vares was a Christchurch regional winner in 2013 with The Eh Team.

We had sleep both nights and actually finished our film with enough time on the Sunday to go make a home cooked meal before we handed it in. We had a really small team this year — it just made things efficient, everybody was on the same page. It was just one of those years where there were no dramas. Everything just happened and it was easy.
– Director Julian Vares on getting to relax during the 48Hours film contest for a change, Stuff, 18 August 2019
