The Clean , Music Video – 1982
from the EP Great Sounds Great, Good Sounds Good, So-so Sounds So-so, Bad Sounds Bad, Rotten Sounds Rotten (1982)After their first EP spent six months in the New Zealand charts, The Clean followed it with another EP, with an incredibly long title. It spawned keyboard-driven classic 'Beatnik', which got to number four. In the video, a Texan (David Telford, from 1980s sitcom Rabbiters Rest) stops by a coffee bar, where he is confronted by kaftan-wearing, pot-smoking beatniks, while trying to enjoy a cuppa. Silly costuming, delightful comic timing and hammy performances afford this clip legendary status.
