Beer and Skittles is a loose, funky number from R&B band The Hulamen. The video is a party from whoa to go with stop motion animation, plus masks and sculptures designed by artist Debra Bustin. The main character is sleazy Eelman (worn by percussionist Tim Robinson), who was a regular at Hulamen gigs. The Hulamen started life when ex members of The Rodents jammed with vocalist Marion Spencer, ex-Rough Justice guitarist Stephen Jessup, saxophonist Peter Famularo and bassist Paul MacAllister. Guest vocalist Peter Marshall later had a hit as part of The Holidaymakers, with 'Sweet Lovers' .
Hulamen gigs were events: there were at least 10 musicians on stage, with the spotlight shared between up to half-a-dozen singers. Plus, the Eelman website recalls, "percussionist-without-portfolio Ronny Pelicano (aka Tim Robinson) and his Fred-Astaire-on-acid dance routines. At the Terminus Tavern, Steven McDougall, the group’s tireless tech, erected a platform above the stage where a pair of female dancers ‘the Hulettes’ would gyrate to the funk."– Writer Murray Cammick on The Hulamen, AudioCulture, 22 November 2013
