The Best of The Zoo

Television (Full Length Episodes) – 2004

Episode One
Kashin the elephant has custom-made orthotic shoes fitted and light therapy to treat his painful feet. Meanwhile, the red panda keepers are welcoming a brand new litter of cuddly red pandas. 

Episode Two
Celebrations are underway at Auckland Zoo with the arrival of a baby rhinoceros, and the show looks at the care of the elderly chimpanzees who once performed in the zoo's infamous Tea Party shows of the 1950s and 60s. 

Episode Three
The kiwi breeding programme, Operation Nest Egg successfully hatches another kiwi. Then a look at the other native birds at the Zoo, including kererū and ruru (morepork). Over in the lion enclosure there are two adorable new additions to the pride.

Episode Four
Zookeepers rush to tend to two tiny siamang gibbon twins after their mother harshly rejects them, and the tigers get a upgrade to their enclosure with a giant-sized cat climbing tower.

Episode Five
There is a heartwarming reunion for tiny siamang gibbon Iwani with his older brother and parents (Iwani later featured in this special). Elsewhere at the zoo, the hippopotamuses are moved into their new home.

Episode Six
Zookeepers are busy working on a solution to keep trouble maker chimpanzee, Luka from bothering his family, and sister servals Izazi and Mazimba aren't too welcoming of a potential new mate.

Episode Seven
The zookeepers are kept busy, running around the zoo trying to round up the free-range cotton top tamarind monkeys. Then, the sea lions get to check out the grand opening of their brand new pool.

Episode Eight
Zookeepers team up with the Department of Conservation to catch giant wētā from Mahoenui Reserve. Back at the zoo, the team check on some weird and wonderful creatures including, tarantulas, chameleons and the native tuatara.

Episode Nine
Two timid golden cats are gently introduced to each other for the very first time, and the primates team has developed an orangutan training program to help manage the disobedient orangutans. 

Episode Ten
The team are worried about the health of a meerkat struck by a sudden and unexplained illness. The elephant keepers give Kashin a new enrichment challenge and the sea lions are treated to a fish popsicle.
