Following the 2019 black-comedy-thriller Come to Daddy, Director Ant Timpson and actor Elijah Wood reunite for another Kiwi made film about fatherhood — with a very different tone! Bookworm is a family-friendly-adventure-comedy, about the precocious young Mildred (Nell Fisher) taking her "Absent Father" Strawn Wise (Elijah Wood) on a wild hunt for the mythical Canterbury Panther. The movie was partly shot on the Canterbury Plains. The cast also features Irish actor Michael Smiley, whom Timpson worked with on his first film Come to Daddy — another parent meets child tale.

There was a joy in shooting a film almost entirely on location in the Canterbury region too — a unique experience in itself.
