John Grant was a Platoon Sgt at the time of his VC Action, 5 machine gun posts were firing point blankly at his company of advancing infantrymen when within 20 yards of their positions Grant rushed forward with a comrade and neutralised a machine gun post, and immediately rushed and attacked another to his left neutralising that as well, while his company following mopped up the remaining 3 machine gun nests..
