Don't Be Shy

Sina , Music Video – 1998

from the single Sina (1998)

After a swift rise to fame as a backing vocalist for OMC  including an iconic hook on How Bizarre' ('Ooh baby, it's making me crazy') Sina released her first solo single Don't Be Shy in 1998. The breezy, romantic track peaked at number two on the Kiwi charts, and was later certified platinum. This stylish video leaves no doubt that this is Sina's solo career launching. Music producer and filmmaker Mark Tierney never strays far from Sina's face, as she plays the guitar, sings and dances gracefully in a simple white room. The song was produced by OMC producer and co-writer Alan Jansson.

The video is very simple, with Sina in an almost empty, windowless room, accompanied only by a chair, a bed and a guitar. This could be really dull, but the video was directed by Mark Tierney so it has style. It’s nicely lit, with some of that high-contrast lighting that was cool in the 90s.
