This 1996 episode of arts magazine show For Art's Sake sees host Alison Parr grilling animator and artist Dick Frizzell on concepts of artistic merit and motivation. Frizzell's exhibition at Wellington’s Andrew Jensen Gallery kickstarts a discussion about the differences between commercial and fine art— and which category Frizzell’s paintings fit into. His paintings feature realistic depictions of household items, not unlike those seen on advertising hoardings. Frizzell singles out one particular mural on Taranaki Street in Welllington, which blurs the line between fine and commercial art.
